Doesn’t seem like that long ago since the last party but we’re off again. Flukey and the Yew Tree brought the goodness for January so cheers to them once again. Starting to get out of this winter blues period and looking forward to our spring events, ideas for some bigger stuff during the summer are knocking about already (think outdoors and a club too and your on the right track).

Well this month we have another guest lined up, our first international….well kind of…not really I suppose…Boo’s America. He hasn’t come from California for this…just North Main Street. At least North Main Street doesn’t have the Terminator as its leader eh?

Not only has Boo given us the pleasure of playing some of his vast record collection on Sunday he has put together a radio mix in Sunday Times HQ (Johns gaff) complete with weird robotic voiceover to protect his identity…although you will clearly be able to see him on Sunday if you come up…no Moodymann anonymous DJ action here.

As per usual myself and John will be hauling up a load of records and filling in all the gaps to the best of our abilities.
That mix should be located in the post below..see down there…..yup there it is…… its just plain great, John Martyn, Talking Heads, Santana, David Axelrod, Steely Dan….do yourself a favour and lend an ear.

So there you go, usual applies,

Back with a new radio/not radio mix folks, started sounding like the soundtrack to the loveboat for a while and then got too serious with the dub so its a bit of everything. Due to a dodgey tone arm it unfortunately drops into mono on two tracks, since its not all very serious we didnt fix it afterwards….and we don’t know how, probably more of the latter as you know we take ourselves very..very seriously here.

Enjoy!

Terres Neu Wuss Fusion – Love on a Real Train (Risky Business)

Wim Merthens – Close Cover
Christopher Willits – Colours Shifting
Cosmic Metal Mother – I think (therefore I am?)

Smith & Mudd – Enos
JP Decerf, G Zajd & C Betsy– Leavin my place
Isaac Hayes – Ikes Mood
Bola Johnson – Lagos Sisi

Moritz von Oswald Trio – Pattern Four
Rhythm & Sound – Never tell you

Its all doom and gloom isnt it?January?Dull and miserable?Has anything ever good happened in the month of January?Obama got inaugurated I suppose but sure he got it wrong and had to do it again, probably because January is so shite. Well we’re celebrating the end of this crap month with our first Sunday times of the year!Huzzah!

The last one was pretty great (as any folks who were in attendance will hopefully testify) and we’re looking forward to the start of our 2010 evenings just as much. Joining us on the day, after a highly successful FLUKEYFEST 2009(c), are two of the real world representatives, Flukey and the Yew Tree.

Flukey is the human equivalent discogs. Some say he actually is discogs and is a robotic discography database sent back from the future (probably 2070-80-early 90’s given the music of choice). He’s probably got better records in his bathroom than you do in your entire house. Why he doesnt play more in this town is a mystery (or a carefully calculated move???).

While many of his leafed breathren had a tough winter, being destroyed in floods and ice and winds and strewn across roads around the coutry, the Yew Tree survived and will be joining us again after playing some wonderful music at the jazz weekend gathering. We love having him play and I think he loves playing…..mainly as he can sit in an armchair all day…as well as the music loike.

We will be filling in the blanks blah blah blah, I always write this bit the same. You know the story….

There should be a new mix up on the blog this weekend or next week, my hamster powered medieval connection is causing uploading to be a total headwreck for the moment so it’l be there when its there.

Ye Olde Wireless

The new era of radio is here! Not really but our idea was to do a radio show styled podcast every so often, basically when we have the time.  Well we got the time last Thursday evening and put this together.

Simple…hang about Johns having a few beers and listening music, record, ramble on a bit (albeit very minimally on this one as even if your on your own the embarrassment gets you to you!) and up it for your listening pleasure.

Went on a lot longer than we think we might do the future episodes but its almost 2 hours of good stuff so why not…..enjoy!

——mix removed to be hosted on divshare, mix 2 will be up as soon as soundcloud stops its ‘go slow’——–

I have too many mixes that I’ve downloaded, have taken up space on my computer and will in most probability never be listened to. Actually right now there are 137 podcasts unlistened to. What a waste. Well I wanted to go about making a Mix which suited what I’m listening to tat the moment and what I enjoy playing at the monthly get-downs, although this mostly sounds like early in the day stuff.  It takes me ages to get any kind of mix together and to be honest this is the first one I bothered to record in id say about 3-4 years…also don’t own two working turn tables anymore so that represents a problem in its own!

Back to the downloading mixes spiel, as you know we try and do things a bit more smaller scale and personable at Sunday Times, whether we’re doing this and the methods by which we do it are up to you but that’s the intention, at least we’re trying so instead of just banging together a mix and upping it to some filesharing heap we’ve gone and burnt 60 copies of this mix ere’ and made some fancy covers to boot. So heres the story…..

Tracklist as follows..

Intro…. Timothy Leary at Millbrook documentary excerpt

1. Top Drawer – Song of a Sinner

2. Donovan – Get They Bearings

3. Dorothy Ashby – The Moving Finger

4. Flying Lotus – Aunties Harp (Rebekah Raff  re-mix)

5. Alice Coltrane – Journey in Satchidananda

6. Smith & Mudd – Hvala

7. Juju & Jordash – High Noon at Riffmans Creek

Excerpt from Interview with Fela Anikulapo Kuti

8. Tony Allen – Ole ( A remix by Moritz Von Oswald)

Excerpt from Interview with Fela Anikulapo Kuti

9. Can – Sunday Jam

Excerpt from Malcolm X Documentary

10. Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson – Winter in America

Sup fools, Sunday Times is back yo!

Enough of that nonsense, neither of us actually speak like that.

Forget about Stephens Night/Boxing Day/whatever other names there are, the 27th appears to be the day to get out over the yuletide celebrations if our opinion is worth anything, and a solid line-up for the day is ensured with what we have got lined up….for the day.

We’re glad to welcome two of Corks vinyl heroes up for a day of anything goes….John Hennessy and Barry Walsh!……Joining them will be Jimmy Horgan and John Daly…bad joke? Yessir, expected.

Back to the actual two Cork Vinyl heroes who I’m sure are familiar to the lot of yis. Not much more to be said for Horgan (yes that’s Jims names folk who say Jimmy P….Plugd), mans got the rekkids, as he has the wrecka stow! Always a good laugh playing some with the Jim.

Joining James will be a former employee of his done good, John Daly of Murkyville Via Galway and Space. Again, not much to be said on this matter. John will be dusting off some of the stuff he don’t get to play that often anymore since he’s become some sort of international star guy, and we are looking forward to it big time.

The two of us will be joining the lads to make up the motley part of this crew and expect everything from A to Z.

Joining all of us will be some mulled wine and mince pies that we have a team of midgets brewing and baking as we speak. In an un yuletide move the pizza etc shall most probably arrive also, who knows maybe it will be topped with Christmas baubles and tinsel….lets hope not.

All this can then be topped off by the twin opportunities of Stevie Grainger spinning the Disco in the Pav after or Moodymann spinning that amongst others in the Savoy.

Pretty good…..perrrrrrrity good.

As Usual,

Oh and also will have 60 copies of what we’d like to call the first instalment of mixes for y’all. Put a lot of effort into printing some sleeves as a special Christmas bonus and probably wont upload it to anywhere to be honest…..includes Dorothy Ashby, Can, Alice Coltrane, Juju and Jordash, Moritz van Oswald amongst others…ooh er!
